Nine to Five
(2026)
One of the most challenging projects I had the pleasure to work on in my time at CalArts was a theoretical production of the 2009 Broadway musical 'Nine to Five'. The assigned venue for this production was the Angus Bowmer Theatre, a space with its own distinct architectural character and staging demands.
This marked my first attempt at designing a full-scale musical, and it introduced a range of new and compelling challenges. Unlike straight plays, the structure of a musical required me to think beyond narrative clarity and into rhythm, pacing, and visual dynamism. I had to consider how scenic transitions could support the momentum of songs, how environments could shift fluidly without interrupting the energy of a number, and how design elements could heighten emotional beats rather than simply frame them.
This project is still in progress. I look forward to sharing updates as they come!
