CalArts Halloween Party 2024: Twsited Treasures
(2024)

NOTE: This Project is a current work in progress, and more material will be posted as development continues!
Stay tuned!

Welcome to the behind-the-scenes look at "Twisted Treasures," the upcoming CalArts 2024 Halloween party! This event is themed around a haunted toy store, where every corner is filled with eerie enchantments and sinister surprises. As the production designer, I have the exciting task of bringing this entire event to life, from the smallest details to the grandest spectacles. I'm also thrilled to be co-designing the main stage with my talented peer, Alix Newman.

What you see here is just the beginning. This section of my portfolio will be continuously updated with new developments, designs, and sneak peeks as the event evolves. I'm incredibly excited to share this journey with you and can't wait to reveal the full experience on November first!

Main Stage Concept Art
This is Aisle 666! Aisle 666 is located at the back of the store, far away from any windows. It’s the perfect spot for toys to wander or congregate when no one’s around.
Painted in Procreate, this art is one of our earliest pieces; it has been our anchor for main stage design. The event has a recurring motif of overwhelmingly large props, which comes to head here in Isle 666. The giant cabinet, huge stacked blocks on the sides, and massive robot and nutcracker toys which shoot confetti, all create a disorienting and intimidating sense of scale.

Scenic Worldbuilding Concept Art
Early concept art made in Procreate of different ideas of how to keep the space as all encompassing as possible; avoiding empty spaces which can take guests out of the story.

Early Model
Model made to develop design intent and ensure sightlines were pleasing, as well as understand the general scale. Created in SketchUp.

Early Floorplan
Groundplan made from the SketchUp and SketchUp layout, which gives us an idea of the dimensionality of the space. While the space is fully immersive and completely engulfs the guests in the world of this toy store, there is still more than enough space for people to walk, dance, and celebrate.
