Trojan Women
(2026)

My last academic scenic design project at CalArts was to design a production of "Trojan Women" on a current or former refugee camp. After some research, I decided on Makronisos Island in Greece- not just because of its proximity to the actual location of the story (that being the fallen city of Troy- modern day Turkey), but also its architectural elements and surrounding ocean. Architectural elements include an outdoor chapel, which sparked design ideas quite fast.
The project acted as a good excuse to explore my abilities in sculpting with foam and clay, a skill which I longed to practice more of, and look forward to using further.

Idea Sketches
Early concept sketches of the design. To the left are the earliest design ideas- including rough ideas of what the "wreckage" could look like. On the right, a further developed concept, with the set facing opposite the ocean and large screens for the audience towering over.
